How do I register?

The DK Quiz is completely free to play and registering for your DK Quiz account is quick and easy. There are 2 ways to sign up:

  •     By Facebook – register using your Facebook log in details
  •     By Form – sign up using our simple form

Please note that you have to be 13 years or over to set up a quiz account.

Why do I have to register?

Having a DK Quiz account gives you access to great features, rewards and much, much more. With your DK Quiz account you’ll be able to:

  • Track your quiz scores on our leaderboard
  • Unlock badges and bonus content
  • Gain entry into prize draws
  • Access your friends’ quiz scores
  • Challenge your friends to quizzes

How do DK quizzes work?

DK quizzes are made up of 20 text and picture questions with multiple-choice answers. Most quizzes will ask you to answer a question by choosing an answer from four possible options but we’ve thrown in the occasional True / False question and some picture only questions to keep you on your toes.

How do I answer questions?

Once you’ve begun a quiz, you'll be presented with the first of 20 questions. All you need to do is click on one of the answer buttons below the question and if you’re correct, the answer button will go green. If you’re incorrect, the answer button will turn orange. Either way, your score for that quiz will be updated (if you are playing that quiz for the first time) and you’ll automatically be taken to the next question to answer.

Can I pause a quiz while I'm playing?

When you play a timed DK quiz, you can pause it at any point - however, the pause will only come into effect between questions. This is to prevent players researching answers and coming back to answer ‘live’ questions.

So, after you’ve hit the ‘pause’ button, make sure you answer the question on screen or the time will run out and it will count as a wrong answer.

How do I choose a quiz to play?

Playing our quizzes couldn’t be simpler – it’s choosing the quiz you’re most interested in that’s the hard part.

You can search by:

  • Most popular quizzes – most played on the website
  • Recently added – quizzes that are hot off the press
  • A-Z – find quizzes alphabetically
  • By category – choose a simple top level category that you're interested in e.g. History, Sport etc

How do I search for a quiz to play?

We’ve broken up the quizzes into the following main categories:

  • Around the World
  • Culture & Entertainment
  • Food
  • General Knowledge
  • History
  • Natural History
  • Science & Technology
  • Sport

By clicking on any one of these areas, you’ll see more specific categories below. For example:

Around the world

  • Countries
  • People
  • The Earth

Under each of these sub-categories you’ll find great quizzes just waiting to be played.

Are all the quizzes the same difficulty level?

No, we've graded all our quizzes as Easy, Medium or Hard so that finding your next quiz at the right level is easy (medium or hard)

Can I upload a profile picture if I have registered with a non-Facebook account?

At present, non-Facebook users are unable to upload a profile picture.

How do I delete an account created with Facebook?

You can delete your DK Quiz account by following these steps:

  • Logging in to www.dkquiz.com
  • Clicking on the ‘profile’ tab
  • Choose ‘My account’ from the left hand navigation
  • Select ‘Delete Account’
  • Clicking on the ‘DELETE ACCOUNT’ button

You’ll then see the following on-screen prompt:
“Your Facebook account is connected with the DK Quiz, but you do not have a DK Quiz account … If you have deleted your account and no longer want to see this message you must disconnect your Facebook account from The DK Quiz.”

By clicking on the text link, you’ll be taken to the ‘application settings’ page in Facebook where you can delete the application from your account.

Please note: Once you have clicked on the ‘Delete Account’ button, your account will be permanently deleted and your scores, rewards and extras will be lost.

How do I delete a non-Facebook account?

You can do this simply by:

  • Logging in to www.dkquiz.com
  • Clicking on the ‘profile’ tab
  • Choose ‘My account’ from the left hand navigation
  • Select ‘Delete Account’
  • Clicking on the ‘DELETE ACCOUNT’ button

And that’s it - your account will now be deleted

Please note: Once you have clicked on the ‘Delete Account’ button, your account will be permanently deleted and your scores, rewards and extras will be lost.

Why is the DK Quiz broken down into regions?

The DK Quiz audience is broken down into ‘Regions’ and we’ve done this for several reasons.

As well as great regional quiz content that’s relevant for players all around the world, your ‘DK Region’ setting allows us to offer players the correct versions of certain DK Quiz content, plus assigning your correct region is also a condition of entry for certain prize-draw competitions.

The DK Quiz will automatically assign you a region, but if for any reason you think you’re receiving the wrong content, simply:

  • Click on the ‘Profile’ tab
  • Choose ‘My Account’ from the left hand navigation
  • Choose from the ‘DK Region’ dropdown menu (UK & rest of world, USA, Australia or Canada)
  • Click the ‘Save my settings’ button at the bottom of the page.

From now on, you’ll see questions and content with you in mind.

Can I set my timer preferences?

You can play DK quizzes in either a ‘timed’ or ‘untimed’ mode and you can set your default preference on your ‘My Account page’. The differences between the two settings are the effect it has on your score as you earn more points for a timed quiz and the pressure you want to put yourself under as you play.

Please note: You can also change whether a quiz is timed or not at quiz level. There’s a button on each quiz ‘start page’ that allows you to choose whether you want to play timed or untimed.

What are the advantages of creating a quiz account using Facebook?

We want our DK Quiz fans to be able to chat about the DK Quiz, share quizzes they like and challenge each other and we think the best way to do this is by using Facebook functionality.

That’s why we’re using Facebook Connect for creating DK Quiz accounts; it allows us to offer lots of great features such as challenging friends and family to quizzes and posting your DK Quiz scores to your wall.

Please note: We will never publish on your wall without prior consent.

How do I update my account to connect with Facebook?

If you didn't connect your Facebook account when you signed up for the quiz don't panic - it's not too late. The first thing to do is check whether the email you used to sign up and log in to the DK quiz is the same one that’s attached to your Facebook account.

If these email addresses are the same:

  • Log out of the quiz
  • Click the 'Log in with Facebook' button in the top right of the DK Quiz screen
  • A separate Facebook window will open up and you will be asked to sign in to your Facebook account (unless you're signed in to your Facebook account already)
  • Allow the DK quiz application to 'connect' with your Facebook account

And that’s it – you’re connected via Facebook. You’re now ready to share the DK Quiz experience with your Facebook friends.

What if my DK Quiz & Facebook email addresses are different?

If you didn’t sign up to the quiz with your Facebook email address but you'd like to use Facebook to take advantage of all the great additional features such as viewing friends' profiles and sending challenges, the best thing to do is to delete your current DK quiz account and go back to the sign up page, choosing the Facebook option this time.

You can do this simply by:

  • Logging in to www.dkquiz.com
  • Clicking on the ‘profile’ tab
  • Choosing 'My account’ from the left hand navigation
  • Selecting ‘Delete Account’

Your account will then be deleted, leaving you free to register by connecting with Facebook.

We're working on friending challenges for non-Facebook users but while the quiz is in beta, Facebook is the only option for connecting your account with your friends.

How do I challenge my friends?

There are two ways to challenge your friends:

1. Click on the 'Challenges' tab at the top of the quiz page and then click on the 'New Challenge' button. Then all you need to do is select a quiz (out of the ones you've completed), select a friend from your list and if you like, attach a message to your challenge.

2. You can choose to challenge your friends to a quiz that you have just played by clicking on the 'Challenge your friends' tab at the end of the quiz. You can then choose the friend that you want to challenge and send them a message. You will only be able to challenge friends who have not already played the quiz. If you want to see how you've done against your friends that have already played the quiz then you can go into your 'Profile' and then into 'My Friends' and click on the 'View Head to Head' button.

How is my score calculated?

You can play a quiz as many times as you like but points are only awarded for the first time that you play a quiz. We calculate your DK Quiz score using the following criteria:

  • Accuracy – this is our main judging criteria and has the most effect on your score
  • Quiz difficulty – the level of the quiz (Easy, Medium or Hard) will have an effect on your score with more points awarded for Hard quizzes than Medium or Easy quizzes
  • Time – achieving a good time on your quiz will boost your points further
  • 100% correct first time – getting 20 out of 20 on your first play will also add to your points score


Timed or Untimed – what is the difference?

We’ve given you the option to choose whether you want to time your quiz or play at your leisure. The difference between the two is the effect it will have on your score.

When you play a timed quiz, the quicker you answer a correct question the more points go towards your score. On an untimed quiz you’re playing under less pressure so only your accuracy (amount of correct answers) counts towards your score.

The same score on a timed quiz will always score more highly than the same score on an untimed quiz.

Can I compare my score to other DK quizzers?

We have created a comprehensive leaderboard that allows you to look at your quiz scores in a variety of ways. This gives you a great insight into how you compare with your fellow DK quizzers.

You can filter the leaderboard by category, difficulty and the time that quizzes have been played in.

The leaderboard columns are as follows:

  • Name - your fellow quizzers (you can click on their names to view their profiles)
  • Points - total points score
  • Quizzes completed - number of quizzes taken and finished
  • Correct answers - the amount of correct answers from the first play of a quiz (repeat play of the same quiz does not affect this score)
  • Average accuracy - the average accuracy achieved throughout first plays of quizzes (repeat play of the same quiz does not affect this score)
  • Gold stars - how many perfect scores have been achieved
  • Longest correct streak - most correct answers achieved in a row. This applies across multiple quizzes taken over time.
  • Longest incorrect streak - most incorrect answers achieved in a row. This applies across multiple quizzes taken over time.

It's also possible to view the leaderboard for each individual quiz so you can see how your score compares with other DK quizzers who have completed that quiz. All you need to do is click on the Quiz Leaderboard tab after playing.

How do I achieve gold stars?

Gold stars are given for completing a quiz with a perfect 20 out of 20 score whether it's the first time you play it or on a replay. You can get gold stars in both timed and untimed modes.

How can I earn badges?

We think that when you’ve been working hard on your DK quizzes, you deserve a little something special and that’s why we’ve created DK Quiz badges.
You can earn badges a number of ways:

  • Just by playing
  • By working through categories and sub-categories
  • By increasing your overall score
  • With your correct and incorrect answer streaks (although you don’t want the incorrect badges!)

Your badges can be found by going into your Profile and clicking on My Badges on the left. You can see which ones you have managed to unlock as well as the ones that you still need to get.

What is Bonus Content and how do I get it?

By playing quizzes you can unlock related Bonus Content. You can find out where this is by looking through the Bonus Content area within Extras. Bonus content is made up of:

  • Videos
  • Audio clips
  • Posters
  • Screensavers

Look out for the word Bonus on quiz icons.

Can I win anything by playing the DK Quiz?

We’ve got some great prizes to give away and by playing certain quizzes you’ll be automatically entered into a prize draw – good luck.

Can I play the DK Quiz on my mobile?

The mobile version of the quiz will be coming very soon. Make sure that you sign up to the newsletter for the latest updates on quiz developments.

What should I do if I have any feedback about the DK quiz?

The DK Quiz team wants to hear from our players so we can ensure that we offer the best quizzing experience possible. We’ve added a grey ‘Feedback’ tab on the right hand side of the DK Quiz site. Simply click on it and a feedback window will appear.

We’re utilising a handy little feedback tool called Get Satisfaction that lets you send us the following:

  •     Ideas – Got a great idea for new functionality, features or quizzes? Let us know.
  •     Questions – something on your mind about the DK Quiz? Write to us and we’ll do our best to help.
  •     Problems – something not working quite as it should? Tell us and we’ll fix it.
  •     Praise – if you love the quiz and want to tell us, we’d love to hear from you.

Once you’ve written your message, you need to sign in (using either your Facebook, Twitter, Gmail or Get Satisfaction account details) and you can then post your message privately (to the DK Quiz team only) or publicly on the DK Quiz community on GetSatisfaction.com.
